All,

Well I finally managed to fix the "wiring loom of death" and get all the
gauges right. Found one burnt out bulb for the fuel gauge light...when
I went to Autozone and the guy asked "what kind of car is it for," and I
told him an MG, he said, "who makes it?" Arrgh.

In any event...now that I have all the gauges in place and working, and
the insides of the back of the round ones painted chrome (hoping to
brighten things up a bit), the bulbs are substantially dimmer than
before, which I don't get. Playing with the rheostat makes the bulbs
flicker, and it used to work just fine.

Any ideas on what could be up? Again, rheostat used to be just fine,
and the bulbs used to burn a lot brighter than this. I'm a little
disappointed that now that everything's back together, a problem chooses
now to show up.

Of course...a rheostat on an MG's gauge lights has to be an answer to a
question nobody asked.
