How difficult is the job for an amateur?  I've got the clunk too, so I might
have to do the same thing after replacing the u-joints first (another task
I've been postponing).

I would guess it's a very old article, perhaps from the time before John
learned that - for the amateur, trying not to beat flat rate - it's a
helluva lot easier to do the job with both halfshafts removed. I'd never do
it any other way........
