Tab,

When my now 25 year old was 1 or 2, I used to strap her car seat on the back
platform over the batteries using the two belts hooked together to hold the
seat in position. Of course in those days you didn't have to wear seat
belts so the wife and I didn't. It worked great with the top up on camping
trips and whatnot.

To answer your question, I have doubts as to the legality unless you mount
an extra set of belts specifically to hold the car seat in place.

When I was in the service, I had a friend with a midget and he and I and
another kid would pile in with the unlucky one laying on the back shelf on
our frequent trips to the local establishments. This was in 1962 or 63 at
McChord AFB in Washington. That was my first ride in an MG and the first
one I drove. What a great time we had.

I have a 4-year old, and he can ride in a child's seat. With the top down,
and maybe the frame removed, there should be room to rig up a seat so three
can ride (a '78B). Has anyone tried this? Any legality concerns? I want
to go to the Stowefest and am trying to figure out how to do it in one
vehicle... specifically the B.

TIA,
