Well ... as others have mentioned, fitting the small input shaft
shaft tranny (3-main) to a later (5-main) engine is accomplished
by purchasing/machining a specialized bushing ... but, I don't
think thats what your asking ... ;^)

Fitting a later large input shaft (5-main) tranny to an earlier
(3-main) engine requires that you either 1) machine the crank to
accept the larger input shaft, or 2) machine the input shaft to
fit the early crank, or 3) on a 3-sycnhro box swap, the input
shaft for an earlier small input shaft.  Take a look at Doug
Jackson's site for the speciific dimensions ....
