I have been racing an A for 27 years without using the spacer and shims.
The Triumph has a spindle that is even smaller than the MG items, and it is 
designed to set bearing clearance by backing off the nut - no spacer involved.

It would seem to be a non-issue to me, but if it makes you feel better when 
you are driving, by all means use the shims and spacer.
