If your in a garage, you can put a jack on the crossmember above the
spring, and a 2x4 between the jack and the bottom of a ceiling joist.
That's how I did it and it worked fine. Just be real sure everything's
lined up, and toe a couple nails in where the 2-by meets the joist. You
don't want anything to slip. Also, I suppose you know that you should
put a safety chain through the spring so it won't fly off if things
slip.
There's a lot of force involved so be careful.
