Paul:

The TR7 5 speed uses a pump to supply oil to the gears. Flat tow it and it
will completely destruct.

There is a lot of controversy about flat towing other transmissions, but in
the case of the Rover 5 speed there is no question.

The word on the lists is that the Rover box will handle anything up to 350HP
without breaking which makes it a pretty suitable box for the V8 conversion
if it is in good shape.

The Jaguar Saloon Lovers list just finished a discussion of the pros and
cons of the Rover vs Jag vs T5 vs Toyota Supra boxes for conversions. The
Rover box came out looking pretty good.
