Aaron,

Basically, you're screwed! The inspection station WILL inspect under the
hood, regardless of the tailpipe emissions. (They'll also check that the
rubber seal on your gas cap is not cracked, and see whether the original
fill-pipe restrictor is present, even though it's not possible to buy leaded
gas any more!).

You'll have to have ALL the original equipment in place - the single carb,
combined manifold, catalytic converter, working air pump and air rail
injecting air into the head, a working EGR valve (they'll test it), all the
vacuum lines in place, the charcoal canister properly hooked up, and - of
course - emissions levels that meet the very rigid specs applicable to your
year. Oh, yes, they'll also fail you if your timing is not set to spec.,
plus or minus three degrees...........
