While the fault remains the breaker would remain 'tripped' so you would lose
power to all the circuits fed by that breaker.  The act of breaking the
circuit would prevent any further damage in that circuit.  You wouldn't know
it had tripped unless you had some means of monitoring it.  The power would
only be restored if the short or whatever was removed.
