My two cents.

The recent virus that started Saturday nearly shut down the
internet. It did this by overloading the system with email
and probing calls. I believe we can help the world wide web
by making a few simple changes to our email and our private
web pages.

1) Set your email composer to send in text only except
where needed. HTML email creates much larger files, and
increases the send and receive time. That's especially true
of those who still don't have the access to high speed
service. Email sent to our BBS's is always converted to
text anyway.

2) Use html email composition only when it's actually
necessary for the understanding of the letter.

3) Never use forward or quote unless the whole message is
necessary for understanding. Copy and paste the pertinent
parts.

4) For those that have web sites, keep the resolution down
on the images. This keeps file sizes smaller and speeds up
page loading for those of us which "still don't have the
access to high sX-Mozilla-Status: 0009Keep images to the
minimum unless it's necessary for
understanding. Barney Gaylord's site is an excellent
example of mostly text with just enough graphics for
understanding.

6) Try to use web page hosting that uses low advertising.
Every advertisement just means more data that needs to be
sent before one can view the page.

Now if we could just get rid of the spamming mail, that
would make the biggest difference with regards to email.

G'day
