Hi Steve,

The pump is out. 
I checked the wiring before taking it out.
The ground wire goes in the same loom as the 12V feed (White). 
I measured the ground connector, which is zero ohms, so nothing wrong there.
I'll order new points adjust these and clean everything thoroughly.
I also can test it offline of course. I have separate a battery available.

Hans, one thing to check is the ground in the back center of the boot. 
I've had those get a little loose and cause the fuel pump to become 
intermittent. It can also cause some odd light symptoms that you probably would 
not see from inside. I tend to stick with the points.
