I have 179,000 miles on the Moss Box in my '71 +8, for most of which I have
used non synthetic 80W90 gear oil. I once put some 140 in, but it was so
stiff I could hardly move the shift lever. My synchro has always been a bit
weak on down-shifts, but with judicious double-clutching this has never
bothered me. Lately it slips out of gear in reverse, but i can easily hold it
in gear for the brief periods that I go backwards. At the last change (which
I have always done every 10,000 miles) I put in some fully synthetic Castrol
90W gear oil, and I think it shifts a little more smoothly, and dosn't slip
out of reverse as eagerly as it used to. Dave Collins, San Diego
