Eric and all,

You are right about the bolts going between the boards. Below I am
attaching an old e-mail between Jim Forbes and myself a while back that
documented the rabbets and dim mentions of the wood.

Thanks Jim, 
I knew someone would come through with flying colors. Figured to be you. I
had a few of the boards measured, but I was missing a few as Grandpa had a
piece of 1/16" steel in the bed since about 1970. Seems he set something
down right through the bedwood and never patched it. The rest of those
couple of boards just rotted and fell out.
