Alan,

    You aren't the only one with a "bad attitude" about shows like this.
Most merchants see it as a win/win when your presence increases traffic for
their business, and go out of their way to treat the participants well with
some freebies. This guy obviously doesn't get it.

    This is a good reason to join a local car/rod club.

     Last season, my home town in West Florida had a full slate of
cruise/show nights, a different one for each weekend of the month, held at
different diners and drive-ins. Some of the places really appreciated the
clubs and the efforts they went to for a quality show. Other places seemed
ambivalent, sort of like the event you describe, like they were doing you a
favor in giving you a place to display your rod. After a couple of months,
the cars stopped coming to those places, and the shows fizzled out. The good
ones are still going strong. The clubs go where they are treated right and
feel welcome. Word gets around.
