Those lights are touted as "daylight driving lights" as I understand it.

You may have seen in some areas that are deemed dangerous stretches of road,
there are signs asking you to turn your headlights on. This is supposed to
make a car more visible so that head-ons due to not seeing another vehicle
for reasons of sun glare or haze or whatever, are avoided. I think it was
GM who first hit the market with these lights that were advertised as safety
features. I would have to guess that they are designed in such a way as to
minimize the chances of misperception of distance.....although who knows?

The deal with Jeeps and Bugeye Sprites is valid. I have a Jeep, and I run
my parking lights whenever the headlights are on. My assumption there being
that when the parking lights are visible, it is obvious that I am not a long
way off.....I have not had an awful lot of ohmagawd braking opportunities
due to folks pulling out in front of me.......

Do you routinely check the front of that Sprite? Could be a "kick me" sign
goes up when you get over 25 mph!

All interesting points not covered in the previous (months ago) thread on
the same topic. I AM curious, though, about the point that Jim House made
about the laws in Canada (& something similar in the U.S.-started 95 or 96,
I think) that driving lights need to be on all of the time (some yellow &
I've seen some white-both main headlights & parking/blinker/secondary
driving lights); seems like a contradiction of laws here. Anybody have more
info.?
