The same thing applies to jeeps and older British cars that have lights
closer together and higher up than what is expected today. I have a 1960
Sprite (Bugeye). People are constantly misjudging the distance of the car.
Either that or there is a big sign on the front that says "It's ok pull out
now"

That is correct......one cannot legally drive with JUST the parking lights
on. I was told a story once, by a cop who had no reason to lie to me, that
there had been cases where folks would see a car approaching with the white
parking lights on, and think it was a distant car's headlights......and that
there were actually fatalities associated with this mistaken perception, so
laws were enacted to make it illegal.

I thought that all of the characteristics of older vehicles were
grandfathered in to not be illegal (no seatbelts required, no blinkers
required, etc.). Basically, whatever the standard was at the time doesn't
need to be "re"engineered to be legal today. So, why do the parking (or
running) lights need to be rewired? Or are you just saying that you can't
DRIVE with them on alone with law changes since out trucks were built?
