When I went to radial tires on my truck an "old salt" who had been a
front end guy at a Chevrolet garage for many years told me I needed to
change to tapered roller bearings because the radial tires would have a
"bad effect" on the ball bearings. I have had the roller bearing in my
truck for almost 15K miles with a lot of that mileage being on the
Freeway at between 65 and 75 MPH and I would swear by the roller
bearings.

I think the issue between bearing types was the effect radial tires have
on
them; ball bearings don't last with radial tires, is how the story went.

Pardon my ignorance but what's wrong with the ball
bearings.....aside from
                being expensive to replace?
