I just had a 700r4 rebuilt and wanted it for an electronic speedometer,
when I picked it up it was still a gear drive not fully electronic. So
we pulled the tail shaft off and removed the plastic gear and drove on a
metal gear like sending unit to be sensed by an electronic speed sensor
that takes the place of the external mechanism that the speedo cable
screws into. The switch was relatively easy since I was helping the
transmission guy. the reverse for a electronic speed sensor to a gear(
per trans man) is far more difficult because the gear was hammered on,
the plastic gear had a clip and slid off. I would think a descent puller
would make easy work of it, then the proper plastic gear would needed to
slide on with a retainer clip. The the outer piece that the cable
attaches to would be a simple bolt in. I wish I would have not mention
this electronic stuff because I found out later that most electronic
speedometer upgrades have a in line adapter to make a signal for the
electronic speedo, and it could be switched back to cable with no effort.
Well I finally found the electronic sensor at chevy from a 1992 Chevy
1500 that would have the two male fitting and spending almost as much for
the water tight connector alone it was finely completed. Ed ke6bnl
