The secret is in the VTEC system. Essentially the VTEC systems runs permits
the use of two cam profiles - a shopping trip profile and a full race
profile
(or thereabouts). At a preset rpm the VTEC system switches from the
shopping
profile to the full race profile. The engine note hardens and you get a
push
back in the seats while the engine pulls to a redlined 8K or whatever. Most
half decent 2 litre engines can be race tuned to 240bhp the trick is getting
them to run around town and this is what the VTEC permits. >>

And the drawback is that you have no torque at low RPMs. They are not great
off the line, until the revs hit 5500 or so. Remember, torque wins races,
horsepower sells cars. The Honda has a 9000 RPM redline, but how long will
that engine last at those speeds?
