Probably the best idea.  Other than that, the first thing to do is try to
insulate the "feet" from the concrete.  This isn't entirely possible if you
intend to fasten it to the floor to keep it from walking around.  Go by your
local truck stop and buy a mud flap, probably $8, and cut it into pads for the
feet.
    Next, stop by your favorite beanery and talk to the person that throws out
the trash.  Eggs, for commercial purposes, come in big boxes w/ the "crate"
separating the layers.  These egg carton things which are about 12" square can 
be
stapled to the sheetrock wall to muffle the noise.  If your wall is concrete, 
you
will have to improvise.
    Lastly, be very careful putting the compressor into a "closet".  These 
things
generate a lot of heat and need to cool themselves somehow.  Closed up will not
be good for them.  The hot setup is to have the compressor isolated from where
you have to listen to it.  Not always possible in the average garage but do the
best  you can.
