I have always changed b/n 500 and 1000 miles.
If you bed the motor in properly, that is more than sufficient.
a) if you have new cam/lifters, run the motor at b/n 2000rpm and
2500rpm for 1/2 hr.
b) start by running the engine at < 4000 rpm, using a mix of throttle settings
including some full throttle applications
c) by the end of the run in period, normal use, more full throttle use.
The main thing is to get the rings to seat. pampering the engine with light
throttle is bad and may lead to glazed bores.
The shortest run-in I have done is 4 hrs - a practice day at the track before
a big meeting with a brand new meeting then onto synthetic. No dramas at all.
