That doesn't sound like all shock problems to me, but the shocks may play a
part, so they may be suspect too. Poor shocks will cause the "roll" or deep
dip in tight turns but I don't think they would cause the car to "wander",
I'm guessing from side to side. With the car on the ground, bounce up and
down on the front fender, then stop. If the car immediately stops bouncing,
your shocks are probably all right. If it bounces any at all after stopping
the pushing, your shocks are suspect, but may not be the only problem. Open
the bonnet and check them for leaks. If they are leaking they need new
rebuilds from Peter C. And shake and check the crutial link between the
shock and the top of the suspension. That has to be immaculate! Anything
less is dangerous. Check the Shock mount bolts--torque them to specs. Loose
shocks could certainly cause wander.
Jack up the front end, jack stand it, and see if the wheel(s) move when you
put a hand on top and on bottom of the wheel. If it shakes, even a little,
you probably need wheel bearings, wheel bearings torqued, or possibly a front
end rebuild if what is shaking is the front end components. Then try to
shake the wheels with a hand on the front and a hand on the rear of the tire.
If that shakes the wheel, even a little, the problem may be in the ball
joint linkage.
Just a few preliminary checks to try. If all that checks out, someone on the
list will probably have some other things to look at.
