I'm lucky - I do have a place nearby.  When I lived in
Florida, I had a place up the road, but then Peter C.
bought it ;-).  But I think (maybe) Jay's point was to
use a real parts "guy" (sorry Jane and Jen, just an
expression...), like Peter C., Just Ed, or some others
on the list.  Peter for instance, sells a lot of NOS
stuff, but also can get anything Moss or VB sells (as
can Ed).  Thing is, Peter will get the part, and call
and say "it looks like crap" and send it back.  Ed did
the same on a chrome (allegedly) shift surround for my
MGB-GT.  Or if I ask for something, they know or will
ask what I'm working on and what I need.   Motorhead
has a black list of parts by certain suppliers thay
know are bad or file-to-fit, and won't sell them to
you.  I think with this forum, there are better
alternatives to the bigger places if customer service
is important.
