While reading John Thornley's "Maintaining the Breed" this morning, I came
across this passage referring to the J.C.C. 1000 Miles in May 1932:

"But as the race leaders had not yet reached the quarter distance, a
decision was taken to substitute the engine from the practice car.
Accordingly, four mechanics -- King and Stone on the practice car and
Cousins and Jackson on Hamilton's -- deliberately began to change engines
while the race was still in progress. Not the least of the difficulties was
that no lifting tackle was available, but the removal of the old engine and
the replacement of the sound one was accomplished by means of a rope passed
under the engine and round the neck of six foot four inches of Cecil Cousins
who stood astride the frame like a human crane jib."

Sounds like Frank is following MG tradition...
