My step son just moved to PA from WA. A they approached DesMoines, their 90
something Windstar began smoking and had to be towed to the dealer from a
rest area. The quote to rebuild their transmission and do some other
necessary work was 12 - 1300. The next afternoon, when they went to pick up
the van, the service manager said that he was giving them every discount
that they qualified for and the total was 625. Needless to say, they were
pleasantly surprised.

My first NEW car was my '64 Corvair Spyder convertible. I decided to care
for it properly and have the dealer do all the work. As it began running
progressively worse and worse, I tore into it myself and learned that not
once had the two rear plugs been changed. I was not happy. The service
manager told me I didn't know what I was talking about, and I was too young
and unassertive to do more than just go home and simmer.

Shortly before I dumped my ex, he bought me a nearly new Datsun with a fuel
injected six cylinder. I took it to the dealer for a tune up and couldn't
start it the next morning. This went on for three days. Finally the SM
told me that at the very least I needed my carb rebuilt, and most likely a
new one. I drew myself up to my full 5'3" (slightly taller with heels &
mini skirt) and loudly announced "You silly SOB! You've had my car 3 full
days and don't even know that IT DOESN'T HAVE A CARBURETOR?????? I want my
money back and I want it NOW!!!" Three other customers left when I did.
When I got back to my office I started ripping plug wires out and found a
split in the top of the coil wire boot over 1" long and all the plug wires
completely shot. I think this is when my ex realized it was the beginning
of the end.

My point with this ramble is that you are going to find competent service,
idiots, and crooks, regardless of the make of car.
