Trial lawyers don't set judgements. Juries do. If the people want to
criticize those who set the judgement amounts, they need to look at
themselves.
What does a person's income have to do with their pain and suffering? Do
wealthy people feel more pain? Why in the world should their income have
anything to do with that? Compensation for loss of income and other
economic damages certainly should consider that, but not for pain and
suffering and other non-economic damages.
Malpractice insurance premiums account for about 2% of medical costs.
Limiting those costs will make a difference of less than 1/2 of 1%. Big
deal.
