Tigers,

Having owned all THREE ignition systems (except the fourth
MSD), I would like to add a little information.

1)  There is both a two wire and a three wire Ford
electronic ignition, and the distributors and control
modules are not interchangeable.

2) There are many "After market" manufacturers, besides
Ford, for these boxes.  Ford's is the best.  If they
suddenly quit on you. A cooling off, or dowse with some
water on the control module sometimes helps, but your going
to have to replace it.  This does not occur often with the
Ford unit.

3)  There are two different modules available, a regular and
a HiPo,  The HiPo costs about $50 and the insulation color
on the box wire entry is different.

4)  You don't have to use that BIG BLUE housing cap, as the
first ones used a regular cap, and it worked ok, although
the newer ones are better, and uglier.  You can convert them
with the correct plastic.

5)  While I use the Pertronix, with a hot coil (make sure
the coil is for "points type" distributors, and you use the
resistor that comes with the hot coil or you'll burn out the
Pertronix.  No resistor (current) problems with the high
energy units, though, like the MSD-6AL (except the $$ and
where to put it)

6) The Pertronix, alone, does little to increase the spark
energy.  It is a points replacement, not a high energy
system.  Is more stable in timing setting, and the dwell
doesn't change with wear.  If you want a big fat spark,
you'll have to add a high energy system , like the MSD
M6AL.  There may be a few tach problems, per notes on the
net.  No tach problems with just the Pertronix.

My experience, for what  it's worth.
