Both of my breaks occurred on the shoulder of
the pin before it goes into the A-arm eye.  Both
breaks were at the rear.  I have also heard of the
front of the pin breaking at that step down shoulder.
My metallurgists did say the step down was
by nature a weak point.

The sheering of the mounting bolts were the bolts
themselves not the pin.  The pin was OK.  

But I am not purvey to every pin that has broken
and I don't think anyone has recorded that data.

I suppose you could make the pin the same size
and not step it down to go through a bushing.
You could make a bushing with a bigger sleeve
to accomodate a bigger pin.  Of course this would
reduce the amount of room for the urethane or
rubber which would in turn make the bushing act
more like a solid bushing and you're back to the
unforgving problem again..  Remember everything 
must fit through the eye of the A-arm.  Also I would 
speculate that it you made the pin that much stronger 
that the incidence of stress broken mounting bolts would
rise. As my expert said, 'This whole design would
not pass engineering standards today.  The whole
system needs to be redesigned.'  Any takers?

With today's litigation mentality I would not make
any recommendations to anyone other than what I
did.  We are just very lucky that SS and others have
taken on this liability.  The lawyers control us all.
