Okay, a question for the masses. Has anyone seen a study that proves
conclusively that a synthetic oil such as Mobile One will actually increase gas
mileage. I don't mean folk lore, but a scientific study.

I ask because I have a car that I use Mobile One in. The factory recommends
it and that I change the oil every 12,000 (has a 8.5 gal capacity). I've
heard that some new auto manufacturers are using synthetics to get the mileage
up
just a little and thus be helped in the EPA challenge to get a certain average
for their cars.

If the mileage actually does increase about 10% and with the price of
gas....well, a 10% saving (22-25 cents per gallon) would actually result in the
oil
being about no cost. Is there a fallacy in this reasoning?

PS When I asked the dealer which Mobile One they used I was told some odd
combination that I had never heard of...something like 0W-80....what's
this?????
I may have the wrong numbers here, but I'm pretty sure one was a zero.
