Ted,

In California, the service rules were local. In Los Angeles city only
the attendant could pump gas. In the County areas (which can be spotted
in large size areas totally surrounded by city, it was optional.
Gilmore Gas had a station near the Pan Pacific auditorium (General
Motors Motorama site, and ice rink for Ice Capades and movies), as well
as Gilmore Stadium for football, midget racing (the cars), THE Farmer's
Market for the stars, and a GREAT drive-in theater. County area, you
could pump (had to) your own gas, and save money when it was 22 cents a
gallon in the 1950's.

That was then, this is now!

Now you HAVE to pump your own gas, unless you are handicapped, wherein
the station attendants MUST provide full service and no extra cost.
(Check your oil, mister?) You can have it ANYWAY you want it, as long
as it is their way.

Steve
