Before I decided it was too expensive, I researched all the avenues for
injection. The best way I saw for a TR6 was with a stand-alone management
system, like SDS, Wolfe, Haltech, FJO, etc..(yes, there's more!!) You need a
set of manifolds like the PI Lucas ones, or you need to drill your intake
and weld in bungs for the injectors. I was favoring a Haltech using
distributorless ignition, thru a Crane cams pickup mounted in the old
distributor. You need to have a throttle body to control airflow, monitored
by a TPS switch. The worst part is to convert the TR fuel system over to
supporting the FI.

Some misc things are an O2 sensor, water temp sensor, idle bypass valve for
cold start, and a cam to take advantage of your vastly improved control.
Higher compression ratios are possible on a normally aspirated motor, and it
should run extremely clean.

Prices? ~ $2000 for the (complete) engine management, a couple hundred for
manifolds, 2-300 to convert the fuel system, plus however much you want to
spend on pretty. Would it be better than stock? Of course. Better than the
old Lucas PI? Definitely. Money well spent? I dunno.

I decided in the end to buy a 1986 Ford Turbocoupe donor car. For 500 bucks
it has a 5 speed .80 OD trans, 4 cylinder TURBO 2.3 liter with an advanced
engine management computer capable of supporting mods in excess of 300 HP.
By the way, it came with 190 HP stone stock. Not too many TR guys running
more than 190 with the 6!!

I'm dropping the entire package, with wiring and all into my TR250. I even
decided against the TR rear. I just bought a Supercoupe entire IRS axle to
axle from a local JY. I figure to mate the Ford IRS 8.8" rear using the
inner plunging u-joints and axle to my Corvair axles modded to TR6 housings.

Waddaya think?......just remember I've done over a dozen 'real restorations'
and I'm antsy to do something different!

Jim

BTW, I'd be happy to share the results of my research with anyone
interested. Just e-mail me for links!
