I've owned Datsun products (240Z's) for almost 20 years, and have been
driving an '85 BMW 535i as a daily driver for the last 5 - both vehicles
have tremendous inline 6's. I bring this up because several years ago,
our local Datsun Club (Ontario Z Car) had a show and shine at a London
(Ontario) Nissan dealer. A gentleman with a TR6 showed up, parked his
car in line with the other Datsuns and opened the hood. A few of us
worked our way over to him, mainly to ask him to move his car to the
spectator area as it was a Datsun show after all - until we looked in
the engine compartment. He had transplanted a 280Z inline 6, with
triple webbers and the 5 speed. He claims that the car performed
unbelievably - excellent power and reliability that the cast iron TR6
motor / transmission could never dream of having. The conversion was
very straight forward with minimal fabricating as the architecture of
both power plants is similar. I'm looking forward to following this
thread and seeing the different and interesting power plants - hopefully
with photos.

Cheers

Sean,

I love my TR's straight six, but the BMW six is my favorite six of all.
A friend of mine has an M3 and it is, of course, very powerful and
fabulous sounding at high revs. What a great idea you have. Road &
Track has scale drawings of the cars and their drivetrains as part of
their road test panels. If you need a copy of one covering the 3-Series
I could scan one and send it to you. At least you'd have a side view
from which you could get some rough dimensions. What part of the
country are you in? I only ask because if you did put a BMW six in a TR
I, for one, would beg for a ride!

i.e. BMW engine etc...is this a possibility (taking into account a
budget and any other restrictions)
