I have never seen a harness bar that is constructed of sufficient tubing
diameter and thickness to meet this requirement. I really doubt the ones
that are constructed this way to meet the Solo II rule will stand up to the
weight of a driver stopping at, say 20Gs, whick in my case would be 5000
lbs. You can argue that you should not be hitting anything with that
velocity on an autocross course, but that was not the case when the two
people died after hitting a tree in Irvine a number of years ago. I
stipulate the same holds true for non-welded in roll cages in the stock
classes. So yes, I think the rule is stupid. Safety should come before
thoughts of some perceived performance enhancement.
