If he was in this CART car wreck: (exerpt from speedvision.com)

The Nextel/Pacwest Toyota/Reynard's onboard data-logger revealed an
impact measuring 123.9 Gs - more than his accident at Texas, which
occurred at over 230mph, compared to today's shunt which occurred at
around 150mph.

The rear-end impact smashed the rear of the car, breaking the motor
mounts and causing major damage to the chassis around the area of the
fuel cell. (There was no spillage.) The high-density foam padding behind
Gugelmin's helmet was crushed to one-half its usual thickness. His HANS
device was cracked. The seat-belt mounts were bent. His form-fitting
seat was junk.

In other words, said chief mechanic Dave Stephens: "Everything worked
exactly as it was supposed to."

The story goes on to add the driver had some brusies. Hello, Mr. France,
the Clue Train is leaving the station. . .
