Is it possible the car has an early front fender on one side that doesn't
have as much flare?

Subject: Please help me get back on the road (A nightmare scenario at
the vehicle inspections office)

Hi All,

I just bought my first roadster and have been driving it for the last 2
days. My wife and I were very impressed with the car and we both agreed
that it is a "keeper". Anyway, since my registration was due in 3 days, I
thought I would get the car re-registered at the registration office. This
require an identity check. The inspector proceeded to inspect the chassis
number, engine number etc. He noticed that one of my front wheels was
protruding a little bit. He then got the car up the hoist and this is what
he came up with:

(1)Split pins missing (2)Top and bottom ball joints, (3) left hand bumper
stop missing (4) right hand tyre (front) protruding (5) to supply report on
front end.

He then gave the car a defect notice. I was in shock to say the least. An
identity inspection that now requires a full road worthy inspection. What
to do now? I paid for most of my savings for the car and the repairs seems
so serious and expensive (even though the car looks so immaculate). Anybody
please give me some help as to what exactly might be the problem. I
measured the chassis from corner to corner and it is square. Both tyres are
of the same make and type as also the wheels. Am I a victim of an
overzealous inspector? I can't help feeling this as he had a smirk on his
face as he stuck the yellow defect notice. He suggested that I sell the car
even though I won't get much for it as it is classed as defective. I can't
help feeling stupid about this. Somebody help me. If anyone can give me
advice as to what part is interchangeable with other datsun parts especially
with points 1, 2, 3 on the defect notice would be a lot of help. Any hints
on why my car has the right side front wheel protruding? Thanks guys.

Feeling very sorry at the moment,

Mark
