Yep, my friend Steve (head guru) has shown me a number of "banana heads" (i.e.
warped) from improper removal. Just because it is cold does not mean it is
not under stress. Good info to know!

I never heard that before, I didn't think a cold head woul warp from the
torque being let off unevenly, but I guess it's possible. Not refuting it,
just news to me.

When loosening the head bolts, start at the front and crack the first two
head bolts loose, about 1/4 turn, then the back two by the firewall, then
the second row from the front, then the second last etc. Once they are all
loosened 1/4 turn, loosen then another couple turns. Tap on the side of the

head with a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer, or jiggle the manifolds until

the head pops loose. Then remove the bolts and head. Basically the reverse

of installation.

This minimizes any chance of warpage.
