For the second year running I am going to have to change the sensor unit on
my BJ8. The brake lights do not come on with only gentle pressure, but do
come
on when the brake pedal is pushed really hard. As most driving on roads
usually only requires light pedal pressure to slow down I have been getting
a few
signals from other motorists that my brake lights are not working.

Does anybody have any suggestions about where I can source sensor units that
will be sensitive enough to work correctly?

We just talked about this over on the British Car Forum. I had to replace
the switch on my 100 late this summer after only two years--same symptoms as
you
describe. I got a new one from Healey Surgeons maked "Made in UK"--the last
one was from Moss so maybe this is a better source, maybe not--we'll see.

Several folks have developed brake-pedal activated systems and you can find
stuff online from Streetrod and other suppliers. But given how relatively easy
it is to change the switch I am not sure it is worth all the trouble and am
coming to regard this as an intermittent service item!
