Figure this one? =C2=A0I have had two Spline failures. =C2=A0
1. =C2=A0Right rear wheel spline got wiped out and I heard a very loud grin=
ding sound when I applied the brakes. =C2=A0I was able to drive home. =C2=
=A0It was almost impossible to get the Knock Off Nut off. =C2=A0I was event=
ually successful using a 20 LB sledge hammer.
2. =C2=A0Left front hub spline got wiped out when I applied the brakes comi=
ng up to a stop light. =C2=A0I heard the same grinding sound. =C2=A0I knew =
that the spine was gone after the rear wheel incident. =C2=A0I slowly drove=
into a parking lot. The Knock Off Nut was loose. =C2=A0I called a fellow c=
lub member for assistance. =C2=A0He brought me a floor jack and with the wh=
eel off the ground we tightened the Knock Off Nut as tight as it would go. =
=C2=A0I then proceeded to slowly follow him home using the hand brake to st=
op. =C2=A0Unfortunately when coming up to the next traffic light a guy cut =
me off and I made the mistake of hitting the brake pedal. =C2=A0Again the g=
rinding sound and then the wheel came off, continued down the road into the=
side of a pick up truck. =C2=A0Fortunately I was going slow enough that I =
didn't damage anything. =C2=A0The car just dropped down on the Brake Rotor.=
=C2=A0I retrieved the wheel and was able to get the car off the ground so =
as to put the wheel back on and proceeded to my friends garage where I left=
it until I could get it home and replace the Hub. =C2=A0I have since repla=
ced all Hubs, Knock off and Wheels.
Question why did the left front loosen and come off while the right rear ti=
ghtened to a point that I was ready to torch the wheel off?
