Here in Texas we can register same-year plates as well, as classic
plates. It's an additional $15 on top of the regular $40 fee, and has
to be renewed each year. You get two small stickers to go on your
windshield -- one says, "Classic" and the other has the expiration
date. Unfortunately, my 1968 plates are dark brown with white
lettering. BLEAH! But they are Hemisfair (sorta like a world's fair
held in 1968, I have been told) plates and I have had a lot of positive
comments on that aspect.
