  Don't confuse the impact wrench with the air ratchet.

  The impact wrench is the one that earns the bad rep, it puts
things on so tight that that you don't have a hope of getting it
off again with hand tools.

  The air ratchet is just a much faster version of a hand
ratchet, and stalls out when the torque is around 50 ft/lbs,
making it generally ideal for general attachment.
