Sorry to spoil your beliefs...
but I can guarantee you there are different gear ratios
floating around out there that were used on the J type O/D
There are 1280 and 1000 rev to a mile variations that I know of
and have used. Before the swap, my speedo read 26mph
while my pace car said we were doing 45mph.
With the present 1000 speedo and J type O/D at 40mph I now read 40.

Paul, I have done this conversion many times. There is no difference in the
speedometer! The one that is already is the correct one. To show the
point, if you are in fourth gear your tach and speedo will match on both a 4
speed and overdrive tranny. If you have changed yours, than I am afraid it
is now wrong.

Yes...it's a straight bolt in. I just did mine last weekend.
You need to also grab the tranny rear mount plate that bolts to the chassis,
the speedo cable is different as is the speedometer (1280 revs per mile vs
1000 per mile)
and don't forget the wiring .
