Some say it matters, and since I found that out, I mark all the axles 
when I pull them. I have also stuck what ever where ever and never had a 
problem. I have even cut down a Morris Minor axle, ground in my own 
teeth with a 4" hand held angle grinder and used it in my A40 because 
A40 axles in this country are hard to find. So far, it's been fine, 3 or 
4 years now. And the car was driven 3-5 hours from home a number of 
times on said axle.
Rocket science it ain't ;)
