The answer to your question about reliability depends very much on how the
car has been treated, as others have said. Generally speaking it will be as
reliable as any 25-year old car. It may not run well all the time, as we
have all gotten spoiled by computer-controlled, multiple-feedback systems.
It will rarely leave you stranded if (big if)you take care of it and
recognize the symptoms of incipient failure. You will have to become
something of a mechanic in order to trust the car, or you will spend a lot
of money having someone else look after it. Looked at another way, a TR6
makes no sense as daily transportation if all you want to do is get to
work. If, on the other hand, you desire to get your hands dirty and gain
some sense of accomplishment in a new hobby, it is a perfect choice. There
are older cars which are as sporty and colorful that are much more
difficult to live with as far as maintenance and parts availability and
cost. (Porsches and Alfas come to mind.) I say buy the car and stay tuned
to the list for any help you'll need.
