  I second Martins opinion.  There is a lot that can be done with these
engines.  They came out of the factory with 1950's design technology.
  If you think back on any of the older cars, there was a lot that could
be done for relatively little money and some work (usually in someone's
back yard).
  I personally prefer the big crank 1300 because it is "square" (bore
close to stroke), & therefor easier to build for high RPM, & I am one of
those guys who likes a high rev engine.  Dont give up on them because of
how they came out of the factory, work on them to build their
potential.  These can be some quick little cars.
