Thanks to Power British and John Day for the timely and "right on the money"
suggestions.  Brian, I added a little twist to your suggestion by using a
socket wrench socket that was just the right size to fit over the keepers.
when I hit the socket with the rubber mallet, the keepers came off into the
socket.    John, I had to learn the hard way a few months ago while
reinstalling another cylinder head and a lock washer made a 'hole in one"
into one of the pushrod tubes.  After repeating every swear word I learned
in the Navy, I proceeded to remove the head nad retrieve the washer.
Thanks again , you saved me a lot of time and swear words.
