BSP = British Standard Pipe

BSW = British Standard Whitworth (I think)

TPI = Threads Per Inch (ie. 1/4-UNF28 means 1/4 piece of metal carved down
to 1/4UNF spec, or 28 TPI) 1/4UNC is 20TPI.  OK?

NPT = National (?) pipe thread - a tapered pipe thread only slightly
different than BSP.

Whitworth wrenches are handy to have- SU carbs use them almost exclusively
(luckily the nuts that hold them on are undoable with ye standard 'alf
inch wrench).  Also, the captured nuts on my TR4 are 1/4 whitworth, which
are bigger than 1/4UNF (eg 7/16" wrench does not fit) - when you bust one
of the captured nuts off it is always nicer (and far more civilised) to
get a wrench on the broken part and undo it proper.  (The heater bolts
come to mind... no way could I have got vise-grips on the chunk o' steel
left somewhere in the scuttle)
