I've found numerous references on the 'net to the 54 Mercedes W196/300SLR.
Even some nice pictures at

I also found some references to a Frenchman making motors with desmodromic
valve gear back around 1907, but it's not clear if they were ever used in a
car.

Don't know about the last LBC to have a crank, but surely the TR3B has to be
close !
Anyone know when the crank was deleted from the 2CV ?
