I agree with Randall, many hours it should run without a generator. 
Don't use the starter much.

I went _weeks_ without a functioning generator in my TR3B (back in the
'70s), always parking on a hill.  Made the occasional 3-4 hour drive to
visit my girlfriend, just driving during the day.

If I had to drive at night, I'd drive my TR4A (which at the time had a
dysfunctional starter).

Never park at the _bottom_ of a hill...
