Hi Paul,
Not likely. This seems to be a common fix when a shortcut is needed to
clean up an engine bay. To detail and prep the area around the engine
all but the engine should be removed. Unless the PO paid out a healthy
buck it's not something the body shop will toss in. Some how they feel
that black looks less obvious in a respray when the hood is opened.
On a good note there have been excellent results had when time and care
are taken to remove , tape and spray the engine bay with car touch-up
(duplicolor, plastikote ). I have gone this route and with the right
etching primer and finish coats you would be amazed at the end result.
It sounds like a great winter project.
