All of what Phil says is very true, and worth remembering. Nevertheless,
some people encounter, through no fault of their own other than having
an innate sense of trust, untrustworthy people wherever they go. That's
why a general sense of distrust settles in. Anyone who's ever worked in
a Midas or Firestone store knows the drill... scare the customer into
unnecessary repairs and then gouge them for all they are worth.

Too many shops in this country depend upon people _not_ knowing the
details of repairs, and that's one of the values of a list such as this
one--its members can teach the uninitiated to do the repair themselves
without too much fear, or it can advise on how best to have the work
done by others. There's an old adage which still applies: knowledge is
power. <smile>

Cheers.
